How to Send Your Google Review Link (Text, WhatsApp, Email)
How to share your Google review link by text, WhatsApp, email or social DM, with ready-to-paste messages, the best time to send, and fixes when the link breaks.
Sending your Google review link is the step most businesses get wrong. They have the link, but it sits in a settings page, gets pasted into a group chat, or goes out a week after the job when the customer has moved on. This guide covers where to get the link, which channel to use, what to write, and what to do when it doesn't open the review box.
Quick answer
Copy your link from Google Business Profile (Read reviews, then Get more reviews), then send it one-to-one by text or WhatsApp from your own phone on the same day as the job. Use the customer's first name, one short sentence, and the link. Send one reminder at most.
Step 1: Copy the right link
You need the link that opens the review box, not the link to your listing.
- Sign in to the Google account that manages your business and open your Business Profile (search your business name on Google, or go to business.google.com).
- Select Read reviews, then Get more reviews. On some profiles this is labelled Ask for reviews. Google's help page on review links and QR codes shows the same steps.
- Copy the short link. It usually looks like
g.page/r/XXXXXX/review. - Send it to yourself and tap it on your phone. It should open the star rating box for your business, not a map.
No manager access? Our free Google review link generator builds a direct link from a business search. For the full walkthrough, including shortening and multi-location links, see the Google review link guide.
Step 2: Pick the channel
Different customers live in different apps. Send the link where you already talk to them.
| Channel | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Text message (SMS / iMessage) | Trades, home services, anyone who booked by phone | Send from a number they recognize, not an unknown one |
| Customers who already message you there, and customers outside the US | One-to-one chats only, not groups | |
| Professional services, online orders, B2B | Put the link near the top; people skim | |
| Instagram or Facebook DM | Salons, cafés, creators who chat with customers on social | Only reply in an existing conversation |
| QR code | In-person handovers, receipts, invoices, packaging | Make it with the review QR code generator and test it first |
If you're not sure, pick text or WhatsApp. The customer is already holding the device that the review link opens on.
Step 3: Send it at the right moment
The best time is the same day, while the job is still fresh: the end of a visit, the moment you hand over keys or paperwork, or that evening for jobs that finish late. If the customer said something nice in person, send it within the hour and mention what they said.
Avoid sending while a problem is still open. Fix it first, then ask.
Messages you can copy
Swap the brackets for your details. Each one is a single short message with the link at the end, so it reads well on a lock screen.
Text, sent as you leave the job
Hi [Name], it's [Your name] from [Business]. All done for today. If you're happy with how it went, would you leave us a Google review? It only takes a minute: [link]
WhatsApp, to a customer you already chat with
Thanks again, [Name]! Here's the link for that Google review we talked about. It opens straight to the stars: [link]
Text, after a phone call or remote job
Hi [Name], thanks for your time on the call today. If the advice helped, a Google review would mean a lot to a small team like ours: [link]
Email, for professional services
Subject: One small favor
Hi [Name],
Thanks for trusting us with [service]. If you have a moment, a Google review helps other people decide whether we're right for them. This link opens the review box directly: [link]
Best, [Your name]
Instagram or Facebook DM, replying to a thank-you
That's so kind, thank you! If you'd be up for saying it on Google too, here's the link: [link]
One reminder, three to five days later
Hi [Name], no worries if you've been busy. Just leaving the Google review link here in case it's useful: [link]

Rules to stay inside
- Ask everyone the same way. Don't send the link only to customers you expect to be happy. Google's guidance for businesses says you can ask for reviews, but not selectively or in exchange for something.
- No incentives. No discounts, freebies or prize draws for leaving a review.
- One customer at a time. Don't paste the link into a group chat or a mass broadcast. Reviews arriving in a burst from one blast can look unnatural, and a blast to people who never asked to hear from you can break messaging rules in your country.
- Don't send the link for Yelp. Yelp tells businesses not to ask for reviews at all, so this guide is about Google (and other platforms that allow it).
When the link doesn't work
It opens Google Maps, not the review box. You copied the listing address. Go back to Get more reviews and copy the link from there.
It opens the wrong business or location. Each location has its own link. Check you're signed in to the right account and picked the right profile, then copy the link again.
The customer says they left a review but you can't see it. The link worked; the review is being held or filtered. See why Google reviews don't show up.
The customer is asked to sign in. That's normal. Google needs an account to post a review, so the link can't skip that step.
Send it in one tap from your iPhone. Plaudit: Review Card keeps your Google (and Facebook or Trustpilot) review link on your phone with a pre-written message you can edit, so you can send it by text or WhatsApp before you've left the driveway, or show the QR code instead. It also counts how many customers open the link from each channel. Try it free for 7 days →
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to send a Google review link?
A text or WhatsApp message from your own phone, sent within a few hours of the job. The customer already has their phone in their hand, the message comes from someone they know, and one tap opens the review form.
Can I send my Google review link on WhatsApp?
Yes. Paste it into the chat like any other link. Send it to one customer at a time, in a chat they already have with you, not to a group or a broadcast list.
Why does my Google review link open Google Maps instead of the review box?
You've probably copied the listing's address instead of the review link. Go back to your Business Profile, select Read reviews, then Get more reviews, and copy the link from there.
Do customers need a Google account to use the link?
Yes. Google asks people to sign in before they can post a review. Most phone users already are, so the link opens straight to the stars.
How many times should I send the review link?
Once, plus at most one reminder a few days later. More than that starts to feel like pressure.
