How to get your Google review link

  1. Search for your business in the box above and pick your listing from the suggestions.
  2. Copy the link and open it once yourself to check it shows the review form for the right business.
  3. Send it in a text, an email, an invoice footer or a QR code, using the copy-ready message if it helps.

The link points at your listing's Place ID, the identifier Google uses for a business on Maps, so it isn't affected by changes to your opening hours, phone number or photos. Test it again now and then, since Google can occasionally reassign a Place ID.

Two kinds of Google review link

You will see Google review links in two shapes, and both open the same review form:

  • The search.google.com link this tool builds, which contains writereview?placeid= followed by your Place ID.
  • The short g.page link that verified owners can copy from Business Profile, which looks like g.page/r/XXXX/review.

Google's own help page explains how to create a link or QR code to request reviews from inside Business Profile. This tool is the quicker route if you don't have manager access to the profile, or you just want a link and a QR code in one place. For the full walkthrough, including shortening the link and tracking clicks, see our step-by-step guide to your Google review link.

Where to use your review link

Keep it within Google's rules

Google allows you to ask customers for reviews. It does not allow offering something in exchange for a review, and it does not allow steering only happy customers towards the link. Send the same link to everyone you have served and let the reviews be honest. If a review you expected doesn't appear, see why Google reviews don't show up.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Google review link?

It is a web address that opens the "write a review" box for one specific Google Business Profile. Instead of asking a customer to search for you and find the review button, you send them straight to the form.

Is this the same link as the one in Google Business Profile?

It does the same job but looks different. Business Profile gives verified owners a short link that starts with g.page/r/, while this tool builds a longer search.google.com link from your listing's Place ID. Both open the review form for the same business, so use whichever is easier to get.

Do I need to own the business profile to use this?

No. The tool only needs the listing to appear in Google's business search, so staff, agencies and franchise teams can generate a link without manager access. Only ask for reviews for businesses you are authorized to represent, and only invite genuine customers.

Do customers need a Google account to leave a review?

Yes. Google asks people to sign in before they can post, so a customer who is not signed in on their phone will be prompted to log in first. That is one reason a short, friendly message beats a long one.

The business I searched for does not appear. What now?

Try adding the town or street to the search. If it still does not appear, open the "Have a Place ID?" section below the search box and paste the Place ID for the listing. Google's Place ID Finder will look one up for you.

Can I offer a discount or gift for leaving a review?

No. Google's policies do not allow offering incentives in exchange for reviews, and they also do not allow asking only your happiest customers. Send the same link to every customer and let the reviews be honest.

How do I send this link to customers automatically?

Paste it into a review request template and send it after each job. Plaudit does this for you: it drops your review link into email requests on the Starter plan and into text (SMS) requests on the Growth plan and up, then sends one follow-up if the customer has not responded.

Got your link? Now send it automatically.

Plaudit sends your review link to every customer after each job and follows up once if they haven't responded, so you never have to remember to ask.
